Toyota 1JZ-GTE VVTi OEM Engine Harness Connectors
Whether you're rebuilding a tired 1JZ-GTE VVTi loom, engine swapping into a chassis that doesn't speak Toyota, or building a clean standalone-ECU harness from scratch — every connector on the engine needs to be the right plug. Wrong gender, wrong pin count, wrong keyway, and your ECU sees nothing.
Below is the full set of OEM-style replacement connectors that bolt onto a stock 1JZ-GTE VVTi (and most of the closely-related 2JZ-GTE VVTi). Each one ships with the matching connector housing, terminals and inner seals where applicable. Use them for single-plug repairs, full re-pin rebuilds, or building a complete fresh harness.
Master kit checklist
Reference list — match your harness against this before ordering. Quantities are for a complete VVTi engine harness; if you're patching individual plugs you'll just need 1× of the ones that are damaged.
- 6× injector plugs
- 6× coil-on-plug ignition coil plugs
- 1× crankshaft position sensor
- 2× camshaft position sensors (intake & exhaust cam)
- 1× MAP sensor
- 1× throttle position sensor (TPS)
- 1× IAT (intake air temp)
- 1× ECT / CLT (engine coolant temp)
- 1× alternator
- 1× vehicle speed sensor (VSS)
- 1× starter solenoid
- 1× VVTi solenoid
- 2× knock sensors
- 1× idle air control (IAC) valve
- 1× water temp gauge sender
- 2× VSV (blue + brown)
- 1× reverse light switch (gearbox)
- 1× oil pressure switch
Fuel system — Injectors (×6)
The 1JZ runs six top-feed injectors. Stock injectors use the Japanese High Guide Denso 2-pin plug — same connector you'll find on most early/mid Denso top-feeds across Toyota, Nissan and Mitsubishi.
Ignition — Coil-on-plug (×6)
The VVTi 1JZ-GTE runs six individual Toyota coil-on-plug coils (no distributor, no external igniter — the igniter is built into each coil). Each coil takes a small Toyota 2-pin plug, also used on Mazda and Hyundai engines that run Denso ignition coils.
Cam & crank sensors (×3 total)
VVTi engines run three position sensors: one on the crank, and one on each camshaft (intake and exhaust). All three use the same Toyota 1JZ/2JZ plug. Buy three of these for a full set.
MAP sensor
The 1JZ-GTE VVTi runs a Denso MAP sensor with a 3-pin plug — also used on some TPS variants in the same engine family.
Throttle position sensor (TPS)
VVTi 1JZ-GTE uses the wider 4-pin TPS shared with 1UZ-FE and 2JZ-GTE. Plug-and-play onto the factory throttle body.
Temperature sensors — IAT & ECT
Two temperature sensors keep your ECU honest. The IAT (intake air temp) lives in the intake tract; the ECT / CLT (engine coolant temp) screws into the head or thermostat housing.
Charging — Alternator
Two flavours depending on your alternator. The VVTi 1JZ-GTE typically uses the 4-pin round green late-style plug, but if you've fitted an earlier Denso alternator the 3-pin is the correct match. Important: let us know which one when ordering — message us a photo if you're not sure.
Vehicle speed sensor (VSS)
Mounts on the gearbox tail-shaft. Standard Japanese 3-pin Denso speed sensor plug — same shell as several other Denso magnetic sensors.
Optional — Wideband O2 for tuning
If you're going standalone or fitting a wideband for proper tuning, the Bosch LSU 4.9 is the de-facto sensor. Most aftermarket wideband controllers (AEM, Innovate, Link, Haltech, Motec, etc.) use this connector on the sensor side. Not part of the factory harness, but very common on tuned 1JZ builds.

Still sourcing — email us if you need these
A complete VVTi master kit also includes the connectors below. We don't stock them as standalone parts yet, but we can source on request — drop us an email or DM with what you need and we'll quote and order them in.
- Knock sensors (×2) — single-pin shielded plugs. Shared across many Toyota engines.
- VVTi solenoid (×1) — small 2-pin on the front of the intake cam.
- Idle Air Control (IAC) valve (×1) — 3-pin on the throttle body bypass.
- VSV blue (×1) & VSV brown (×1) — vacuum switching valves for boost control and EVAP.
- Starter solenoid (×1) — single-pin push-on terminal.
- Reverse light switch (×1) — gearbox-side 2-pin.
- Water temp gauge sender (×1) — single-pin spade for the dash gauge (separate from the ECU-side ECT above).
- Oil pressure switch (×1) — Toyota-specific 1-pin; we currently stock a Nissan equivalent which is similar but not exact.
When these land in stock individually we'll update this article and add the product cards. In the meantime, ordering "the kit minus those" still gets you ~80% of a fresh harness in one purchase, and the missing plugs are typically the easiest to source locally if you can't wait.
Build it your way
Every connector ships with the housing, terminals and inner seals where applicable. Crimp with a Deutsch-spec four-indent or quality open-barrel crimper for a clean factory-style finish. We're based in Adelaide and dispatch same-day on express orders placed before 2pm AEST — Australia-wide shipping, free over $200.
Need a connector that's not in the list, or unsure which alternator style you have? Email us a photo of the plug and we'll match it from stock or source it for you.
